Issue Position: Controlling Costs

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

The biggest complaint I hear from Delawareans on the campaign trail is the cost of insurance. In the past, previous Insurance Commissioners have promised time and again to bring down cost to consumers through further regulation of the insurance industry. Although good in theory, the results have been the opposite. Since 2003, the costs of health insurance coverage has risen by over 50% in Delaware. We have become the 3rd least competitive health insurance market in the country and the First State is now the 9th most expensive state to purchase auto insurance coverage.

The results of that increased regulation has been unacceptable failure and has only served to push companies away from Delaware limiting your choices and options for health coverage. A truly citizen driven approach recognizes that transparency od costs and increased competition is the best way to lower prices in any industry.

I will bring consumer focused leadership to the Insurance Commissioner's office. Together, we will create the regulatory atmosphere that will attract companies to Delaware, spark competition, and increase the choices you and your family have available to service your needs.
